VNUS Closure® Procedure
The VNUS Closure® Procedure uses ultrasound by positioning the Closure® catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by radio-frequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. The procedure is clinically-proven to treat varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux, with little or no pain. Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is an injection treatment used to eliminate spider veins and small- to medium-sized varicose veins. The abnormal vein(s) are injected with a solution that is irritating to the vein wall. External compression is applied with pressure dressings and prescription-gradient compression hose. The body then breaks down the damaged abnormal vein and absorbs it, ultimately eliminating the problem vein. The needle used for the injection(s) is very tiny and causes minimal discomfort. The treatment is performed in the physician’s office and there is no pre-treatment preparation. Post-treatment, normal daily activities can be resumed, but prolonged sitting and standing should be avoided for three days, and heavy exercise (weight lifting, running, and high impact aerobics) is discouraged for two weeks. Walking is encouraged. Prescription gradient compression hose are worn for approximately seven to ten days after each treatment. Several treatment sessions are usually required depending on each person’s individual problem. This form of treatment is typically considered cosmetic.

Endovenous Laser Treatment
The endovenous laser procedure is a non-surgical, minimally-invasive treatment option for varicose veins. It may be done in the office using local anesthesia. A small catheter is inserted into the problem vein via a puncture near the knee. Using the catheter, a fiber is threaded to the upper end of the vein. As the fiber is withdrawn, it emits laser energy to close off the vein. Compression hose are worn for several days after the laser treatment. There is very little discomfort with endovenous laser treatments and most patients can resume normal activities the next day. Excellent long-term results, with only one treatment, can make the endovenous laser treatment an attractive choice for the treatment of your varicose veins.
Laser/Light Therapy
Light therapy is the latest technology in the treatment of spider veins and vascular birthmarks. VeinSolutions has tested a number of different lasers and light sources and currently utilizes light therapy technology. Intense light creates heat energy and is selectively absorbed by the abnormal vein or vascular lesion. The blood vessel then is destroyed and absorbed by the body. The physician can customize the treatment specifically for a person’s skin and lesion type without damaging the surrounding skin. The treatment is performed in the physician’s office and involves no needles, injections or incisions and is tolerated by most people with minimal discomfort. Preparation requires the area being treated to be without sun exposure for four weeks before and after each treatment. A person can resume their routine activities immediately after a treatment. For treatment of leg veins the physician may require prescription-gradient compression hose to be worn for 48 hours. The number of treatments required varies on the size and type of lesion and the person’s individual response. Side effects are typically short term. They may include localized redness or swelling which usually resolves in a few days. If moderate to significant swelling and redness occur, this can take seven to 10 days to resolve. Bruising, if it occurs, usually disappears within one to two weeks depending on the degree of bruising. This form of treatment is typically considered cosmetic.
Minimally Invasive Vein Surgery
Surgery may be the treatment of choice for larger varicose veins. The surgeon’s goal is to remove varicosities to achieve the best cosmetic results with minimal scarring and to relieve symptoms of pain or swelling that often occur. While surgery is not indicated for the treatment of small varicose or spider veins, it may be indicated to treat an underlying problem before proceeding with sclerotherapy or light therapy. Today, with the combination of the technology of venous duplex imaging and the meticulous surgical techniques of our vascular surgeons, patients are able to achieve optimal cosmetic and therapeutic results. Surgery is typically performed in a hospital setting on an outpatient basis with average recovery time of one to two weeks. Surgery is generally considered both medically necessary and cosmetic.

VENOUS DUPLEX IMAGING
Duplex scanning of veins utilizes ultrasound to visualize a vein in order to determine the exact anatomy, direction of blood flow within a vein and to assess abnormal valves. With this improved ultrasound technology, the physician is better able to diagnosis underlying problems and prescribe a treatment plan tailored to a patient’s individual needs. This is important to achieve the best long-term cosmetic and therapeutic results. VeinSolutions utilizes the on-site Vascular Lab located in the CTVS clinic. The test is non-invasive, no preparation is needed and it takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Venous duplex scanning is a diagnostic test and is typically a covered expense by most insurance companies.

Treatments that really work
Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle while your hair is in its anagen, or active phase of growth. The laser light is converted into heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue. Hair re-growth is impeded in the damaged follicle.
Average treatment series
Only 30% or less of your hair may be in the active phase at any one time depending on the body area. Thus, a series of treatments will be required to achieve the long-term improvement you desire. These treatments are spaced approximately 4-12 weeks apart, based on hair growth cycles. Our extensive experience tells us that you can expect to need from 3-8 treatments (4-6 is average) to each treatment area for long lasting optimal results.
Typical treatment sessions
Sessions for an upper lip or small bikini area can take as little as 15 minutes, while larger areas on back and legs may require up to 60 minutes or more.
How permanent is Hair Reduction?
The average patient in clinical studies sees a 48% reduction in hair growth after three treatments and up to an 80% lasting reduction after six to eight treatments (results vary). After you have completed a series of four to six treatments, any remaining hair will usually be finer and lighter in color. Most patients require one or two touch-up treatments per year. Blond, platinum, most red, gray and vellus hair will not respond to this treatment.
